Conceptual confusions may be cured for one generation, but the virus may mutate and reappear in an even more virulent form. And so a new cure must be found appropriately adjusted to the mutation and host. The work of philosophy has no end. The ground has to be ploughed over again and again. Knowledge—empirical knowledge—can be transmitted from one generation to another, but understanding—philosophical understanding—has to be achieved afresh by each generation.
개념적 혼란은 한 세대 동안 치유될 수 있지만, 그 바이러스는 변이하여 더 치명적인 형태로 다시 나타날 수 있습니다. 그러므로 그 변이와 숙주에 맞게 적절히 조정된 새로운 치료법이 발견되어야 합니다. 철학의 작업에는 끝이 없습니다. 토대는 거듭해서 다시 갈아엎어져야 합니다. 지식—경험적 지식—은 한 세대에서 다음 세대로 전달될 수 있지만, 이해—철학적 이해—는 각 세대마다 새롭게 성취되어야 합니다.
