자유의지-도덕적 책임을 다루는 논문에서 'ideal-bearing account'라는 표현을 마주쳤는데, 통상 뭐라고 번역되는지 궁금합니다.

Williams의 'Voluntary acts and responsible agents' 논문에서 등장하는 표현인데, 제가 지금 읽고 있는 논문에서 그것을 인용하여 요약한 바를 옮기면 다음과 같습니다.

The distinctive idea in these treatments is an “ideal-bearing account” of responsible agency (Williams, 1995[1989], 27). This is an aspirational conception of taking responsibility for yourself, which can be realized to a greater or lesser degree, and which is demanding in its full realization, projecting a high ideal as the proper goal of our efforts at self-control. On this view, taking responsibility for yourself involves not only deliberation about what to do and how to order your desires in case of conflict, but also deliberation about which desires you ought to have in the first place, so that your desires themselves and even your character are responsive to practical reason.

통상 “bear”를 “담지하다”로 일관되게 옮기는 경향은 있지만 맥락상 여기에서 “bearing”을 그렇게 옮기기는 어렵겠네요. 소피님도 찾아보셨겠지만 국내에 발표된 문헌에서는 윌리엄스의 접근을 소개한 것이 없는 듯하고요. 이럴 때는 적당히 센스 있는 번역을 선점하면(!) 되는 문제 같습니다. 저라면 “‘이상을 감당하기’ 해명”같이 옮길 것도 같습니다.

어떤 이상 내지 모범을 스스로 설정해두고 그것을 가지고 행위에 있어 꾸준히 방향 잡기를Orientierung 해 나간다는 뜻으로 이해해도 될까요? 저는 이 분야는 잘 모릅니다만..
