강연 진행자인 Brian Leiter는 @Raccoon 님의 글에서도 알려졌다시피 올빼미에서 종종 언급되는 영미권 대학 랭킹 사이트 2021 Philosophical Gourmet Report Preivew 의 심사위원입니다. 동시에 그는 최고 수준의 니체 연구자로도 잘 알려져 있습니다. 그는 니체 분야 루틀리지 가이드 북 < Nietzsche on Morality>의, 스탠포드 SEP의 <Nietzsche's Moral and Political Philosophy> 작성자이기도 합니다.
Leiter의 기묘한 점은 인생철학이나 얘기하고 대륙전통에서나 얘기하는 알아먹기 힘든 소리(계보학이니 뭐니)나 할것 같은 니체를 분석적으로 접근한다는 것입니다. 그래서 한국에서만 니체를 접하신 분들은 이게 뭔 해괴망측한 소리지?라고 생각하실 수 있겠지만, Leiter는 분석/대륙 이라는 이분법에 대해 통념과 다른 생각을 견지하고 있는 것 같습니다. 소개할 영상이 그에 대한 내용을 담고 있습니다. 자막의 도움도 받을 수 있습니다.
사실 저 또한 Leiter처럼 앵글로폰 니체에서 행하는 분석적 니체 접근을 연구 방법으로 채택하고 공부하고 있습니다. 그래서 최근에 투고한 논문도 그렇고, 올빼미에서 소개하는 니체 담론도 제눈엔 분석적 니체 접근법을 따르지 않는 듯한 한국의 니체 담론에 거의 의존하지 않고 설명하죠. 그래서 '니체=독일아님?'이라는 통념과 달리 영미권 박사 유학을 준비하기도 하고요. 이하의 기사 또한 Leiter가 작성한 것인데, 그 중 일부분이 제 생각을 정말 잘 대변해주고 있습니다.
I have a different hypothesis about Stern's invention of the bogeyman of "the Analytic Nietzsche". Anglophone Nietzsche studies have improved dramatically in the past two decades in terms of historical scholarship, sensitivity to textual evidence and nuance, and philosophical sophistication. All this has been rather jarring to the lazy and superficial readers and sophomoric enthusiasts Nietzsche's brilliant writing sometimes attracts. They want to cabin off serious historical and philosophical scholarship as "analytic", so they can ignore it. But they have lost that philosophical battle in the anglophone world, and are gradually losing it in Continental Europe. Nietzsche, who lauded the "art of reading well", would have been pleased.
